FAQ

  1. Q: The first time program is launched, it shows only a black box. :-( How to show image of my region?
A: First, make sure that you have properly configured access to the Internet. Next, check - in which mode is the program. Must be "Internet + Cache" or "Internet". In this case, the area that is currently displayed on the screen will be automatically downloaded and displayed. Next, you can go one of two ways:
    1. Hold the left mouse button, move the visible portion of the screen in the necessary direction (in this case SatMap will be automatically download right tiles).
    2. Select the desired area and download it (in this case requested data will be stored in the cache).
In any case, the program first display data from the cache, but in it absence, download missing tiles from the Internet.

  2. Q: How should I organize the storage of data in the cache?
A: It is recommended to split data (both for the downloading, and for splitting cache files) based on the territory. This is the most logical way and consistent with the principles and algorithms used in graphics engine of the program, as well with the internal organization structure and cache functioning. Such a partition will eliminate many problems in the future with use and manipulation of cache.

  3. Q: I got a very large file cache, and it is constantly growing. I suppose, for reasons of security and usability, it's better to split it into pieces. Is this possible and how to do this best?
A: That's right, it is better to use the cache in the form of several files. The program can work with multiple files at once (up to 100). But for practical reasons it is recommended to simultaneously connect not more than 10 cache files. For viewing on screen and for download decision (whether to download the tile) all attached caches are used, but tiles are downloaded and saved to only one cache - active one. In general, you can have an unlimited number of cache files, with convenient organization of storage (breakdown by catalogs, division of territories, etc.), connecting the necessary ones as appropriate.

  4. Q: What is Active cache (cache file)?
A: This is the file specified on the first line in the list of connected caches (settings window). Downloaded tiles are always saved in this cache. Note that any already connected cache can be chosen as active. To do this, simply move (by mouse) the desired file to the first (topmost) position in the list.

  5. Q: Downloading was successful, but when watching I see in some places black squares. Why this is happening?
A: When downloading, for various reasons, some tiles may be requested but not received. Hence the presence of "holes" in the image. It is recommended to "drive out" each area / territory 2-3 times to eliminate gaps. Don't forget to set the option "Do not replace existing tiles" when re-run. In that case, only missing tiles will be requested, thus avoiding unnecessary traffic cost.

  6. Q: To accelerate downloading, I try to use multiple copies (in several threads) of program. But I got a bunch of errors. :-( Why this is happening, because when using a single thread everything is fine!
A: The program itself work perfectly with multi threads. Problem arise when these threads try to simultaneously access the same cache file (it is not allowed). Workaround:
    1. Download to different cache files (after making the file active).
    2. Abandon the idea. ;-)

  7. Q: What is the maximum size of the file cache?
A: 33 554 432 GB, but working with the cache files larger than 4 GB requires a NTFS file system!

  8. Q: Is synchronization of caches possible (my friend downloaded the one area, I downloaded another)?
A: Yes, it is - import or export one cache to another, or both in the third. You can also copy the selected area.

  9. Q: About the level numbering in the various programs.
A: Nth level SatMap = Nth level Google Maps = Nth level EarthSlicer = Nth level SASPlanet. The levels in GoogleMV, GoogleV corresponds to N +1 SatMap level.

  10. Q: Error "This application has failed to start because MSVCP71.dll was not found".
A: Libraries MSVCP71.dll and MSVCR71.dll (missing on some systems) can be downloaded here: 229 ÊÁ

  11. Q: I press "free selection", dotted line appears, something draws on the screen, but the window for controlling free selection does not appear?
A: To complete selection, double click the left mouse button.

  12. Q: Where to download the heights data (SRTM)?
    A: v2.1 (corrected artifacts in v2) - http://dds.cr.usgs.gov/srtm/version2_1/SRTM3/

  13. Q: I go to subdirectory of Eurasia, but there so many files... Do I need to download and unpack them all?
A: If you need the whole of Eurasia, then all. One file covers area of 1x1 degrees. Name of the square corresponds to the coordinates of its lower left corner. For example: file N41E103.hgt.zip - contain data for the square 41N, 103E
